This city centre cycle will visit places in Cork City related to World War I including a munitions factory (now the Bodega), the site of an anti-conscription riot (Patrick Street), the Volunteers Hall on Sheers Street, hospitals treating the wounded, and some very different memorials built after the war.  We’ll also be joined by Dr John Borgonovo (author of The Dynamics of War and Revolution: Cork City, 1916-1918) who will take us beyond the city with accounts of the tensions between Corkonians and the US navy based in Cobh.
We’ll end the cycle at the Electric for a relaxing (and hopefully sunny!) evening on the river.  Many thanks to Electric for sponsoring the post-cycling nibbles!  Bling Your Bike supplies will be available for anyone interested in decorating their bikes both before and after the cycle.
